A quick user guide to theIDM.com

We hope your experience of using this site is a good one. Our aim is to provide clear navigation and useful resources efficiently to support your day-to-day marketing needs—and your longer-term professional development.

TheIDM.com provides services to the following key user groups:

Downloadable resources are held throughout the site under their respective topics. Each resource file has two components:

  1. Title and executive summary: Displayed to all users, whether or not logged in, enabling everyone to see the full range of the what's available.
  2. Resource/document body (full text): Many documents are available for public access, while others are restricted to authorised user groups, e.g. IDM members. Documents to which you do not have free access might be available for purchase. Click on the title of any resource or document for details of its availability. If you have a member/user no., log in to ensure your full access rights are displayed.

Browser compatibility

We aim for compatibility with the common browsers in use today (dominated by Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox).

Display of web pages in your browser might sometimes differ from how we have intended. If you are accessing the web via a proxy server or firewall, you might experience occasional difficulties. If you or your technical team cannot resolve these, email servicesteam@theidm.com, explaining the circumstances and giving details of any error messages your browser has displayed.

Screen resolution

Pages are designed for optimal viewing at a resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher. To check or change your resolution:

For Windows OS:

  1. Under Start/Settings, select Control panel, then select Display.
  2. Select the Settings tab at the top of the dialogue box.
  3. Change the setting to 1024 x 768 pixels or greater, then Apply and confirm.

Note that in NT/Windows 2000, you might be asked to ‘test the new resolution’ before applying the changes—in which case follow the on-screen instructions.

For Mac OS version 8 or later (Apple monitors):

  1. Select the Monitors control panel from the Apple menu/Control Panels, which may also be called Monitors and Sound.
  2. Click on the resolution you desire in the Resolution section of the control panel.
  3. The new resolution will be displayed after you select it.
  4. Close the Monitors control panel by clicking the Close box in the upper-left corner.
  5. If the image is distorted, adjust the video controls in the Monitors control panel or on the monitor itself.

Searching

Enter your keyword or phrase in the search box (top right corner of every page). You can use single terms, a phrase or whole sentence.

Your results page will provide the opportunity to refine your search. You can of course go straight to the advanced search option, where you'll find help on how to construct your query most effectively.
