    The 2009 top student for the Acxiom-sponsored IDM Diploma in Direct and Interactive Marketing has been awarded to Marie Orpen M IDM, who was the winner of the 2008 top student prize for the IDM Diploma in Digital Marketing. It is the first time in the Institute’s history that a graduate has achieved the top student award two years running.

    Barrie Spelling, Chairman of the IDM Trust for the past six years, has passed away in his home town of Riverside, Connecticut. Barrie has been involved with the IDM for over 20 years as an advisor and counsellor. In his business career Barrie was senior VP of Colgate Palmolive on the worldwide board.

    In a recent IDM survey to over 3,000 students studying marketing at university level, 77% of the 723 respondents stated they were interested in a career in direct marketing. While the first choice was still advertising, with 89% interested, the gap between both career choices has narrowed dramatically.
