IDM appoints a new chairman
Released 13 October 1999: The Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) has announced the pending appointment of David Payne as its new chairman. Mr Payne will succeed the current Chairman, George Smith, on 1st January 2000.
David, who began his business life as a client at Heinz, is a former Chairman of Wunderman, and he founded Payne Stracey in 1988. David says of his appointment, "I am delighted to accept the baton from George Smith, who has made an astounding contribution to the IDM's success. Derek Holder and the team have established the IDM as the foremost centre for the professional development of the discipline of direct marketing."
George comments, "David will be taking over the Institute at an exciting time, when it is poised for national and international growth. He is very much the man for that job, and I wish him every good fortune."
Professor Derek Holder, Managing Director of the IDM, says, "George has done a superb job in raising the profile of the Institute.
