IDM enables senior members to apply for Fellowship

Released 15 July 2003: The IDM has invited those members who qualify to apply directly to the Institute for Fellowship. Up until now, Fellowship was reserved as an honorary award. The doors to Fellowship have been opened in order to recognise the IDM's most senior members worldwide through the accompanying honorific (F IDM) and a tailored communications and events programme.

Now, nominated IDM members who can demonstrate at least 10 years' hands-on experience of direct marketing and 5 years' membership can apply to become Fellows by subscription. Applications will be considered by the IDM's Professional Standards Committee, which will award Fellowship to those applicants who meet the set criteria.

Since its inception in 1994, the IDM has awarded 51 Honorary Life Fellowships to those individuals who have rendered exceptional service, either to the Institute's educational mission in particular or to the direct marketing profession in general. The Institute will continue to elect Honorary Life Fellows in this way alongside the new category of subscribing Fellow.

The IDM's Membership Director, Caroline Robertson, explains, "As the IDM's membership has matured, an increasing number of members have asked how they too can become a Fellow. While Honorary Life Fellowships will continue to be awarded to those deserving the profession's highest recognition, senior members are now offered the chance to apply and subscribe to Fellowship. Through this they can enjoy the senior status they deserve while they are an active part of the direct marketing community worldwide."

Subscribing Fellows will be entitled to use the F IDM honorific, each will receive a certificate and also be able to attend the annual Fellows-only event. The IDM will benefit by calling upon the Fellows to share their experience and expertise as coaches, mentors and as presenters at the on-going series of popular Fellows' Evenings.
