IDM launches direct marketing qualifications in Australia and Hong Kong

Released 17 February 2000: The Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) is set to launch the IDM Postgraduate Diploma in Direct Marketing in Australia and Hong Kong and the new IDM Certificate in Direct Marketing (in Hong Kong only) in March this year. In advance of the direct promotion of the qualifications in the regions, half of the spaces on the Certificate and a third of the spaces on the Diploma in Hong Kong have already been filled.

Direct marketers in Australia and Hong Kong looking to update or improve their skills are being invited to open evenings with the IDM's International Development Director, Julia Foster, in Hong Kong and Sydney next month.

Julia says, "The dramatic growth of direct marketing and e-commerce in Hong Kong and Australia is creating an unparalleled skills gap. No one is better placed than the IDM to meet the direct marketing training requirements in these markets, making this a really exciting time for us."

Oliver Rees, Business Development Director at the Sydney-based agency, Cartwright Williams, says, "The Diploma is a must for anyone who wants to get ahead in the direct marketing profession. The course enables you to manage key issues arising across many industry sectors from both a practical and a strategic level."

Andrew Kirkland, CEO of Royal & Sun Alliance, Hong Kong, says, "I would certainly recommend this course. The techniques and methods it provides have proved invaluable in developing our direct marketing and business practices. The course is very well presented with the emphasis on both the practical and the theoretical."

Managing Director of the IDM, Professor Derek Holder, and the Institute's Director of Professional Short Courses, Jill Hancock, will deliver the one-week intensive Certificate course in Hong Kong during May. This will be followed by self-directed learning, two assignments and two final exams.

IDM Educator of the Year 1999 and recently made-up IDM Fellow, Brian Thomas, will lead the teams of local academics and practitioners teaching the Hong Kong and Australia Diploma courses in three one-week blocks (in May, August and October), which will be followed by exams in December.

The IDM Postgraduate Diploma in Direct Marketing is now in its 19th year and is completed by more than 600 students in the UK alone each year. The Certificate, a precursor to the Diploma, is a new qualification being launched in both the UK and Hong Kong this year.
