IDM revamps Certificate in Direct Marketing for UK Universities
Released 29 September 2003: The Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) has re-launched its education certificate this year to encourage a greater number of university students studying related disciplines to improve their employment prospects with a recognised professional qualification.
The newly-launched 'IDM Certificate in Direct Marketing Principles' has been designed to dovetail with established marketing modules across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The launch of the new certificate means those students who study direct and interactive marketing as part of their degree are able to sit a professional qualification in addition to their degree and in so-doing better their chances in the increasingly competitive job market.
Those who register for the exam also qualify for student membership of the IDM, and receive a mixture of email alerts, original articles, reduced prices on educational and networking events and free access to the IDM Knowledge centre - Europe's foremost direct and interactive marketing library.
Kate Wilkinson, Director of Graduate Services at the IDM explains, "As the ratio of graduates to available jobs continues to rise, those with an interest in working in direct marketing need to demonstrate their knowledge of the discipline. By sitting this certificate in tandem to their degree they are able to do this and give themselves a competitive edge."
Tony Aldred FIDM, Senior Lecturer at the University of Huddersield adds, "I for one welcome the new IDM certificate because it affords students who are inclined towards data-driven marketing the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment in advance of graduation."
The new IDM Certificate can be taught within existing marketing modules at any point in the academic year. The exams are sat at the student's own university in June. The top students for each year are invited to attend a special ceremony in the summer at which they are presented with prizes.
