IDM sponsors Middlesex University Business Challenge
Released 14 February 2002: For the third year running, the IDM has sponsored Middlesex University’s Business Challenge. The challenge, which invites sixth formers from the London area to participate in a business simulation, was won this year by a team from Hornsey School for Girls for the second year running.
The winners were among a line-up of nine teams selected for the Grand Final. They were shortlisted from the entries of 30 state and private schools in the London area by a panel of Middlesex University Business School’s academic and business specialists. They win £2,000 for their school.
A cheque was presented by Kate Wilkinson, IDM Director of Graduate Services, to teacher Theresa Rendle (pictured above, centre) and the winning team, flanked by Professor John Egan (far left) and teacher Kate Moore (far right).
The competition, supported by the IDM, was held at Middlesex University Business School’s Hendon campus. Participating teams were challenged in a range of marketing areas, including strategy, finance, operations and management.
“The Hornsey Girls group worked incredibly well as a team. They applied their academic knowledge sensibly and practically at each stage of the competition,” said Professor John Egan, one of the competition’s judges. Kate Wilkinson agreed: “The girls showed a high degree of business acumen, maturity and ability. They will be a tough act to follow at next year’s contest.”
The prize money will contribute to academic resources for the Economics and Business Studies department at Hornsey School for Girls.
