IDM teams up with Ocado and Heresy for nationwide University Tour
Released 07 October 2003: Waitrose's Internet shopping service Ocado and agency Heresy have teamed up with the IDM for a nationwide educational tour of the UK universities. The tour is the latest in the IDM's growing number of initiatives designed to help it achieve its mission to inform the UK's undergraduate community of the many career opportunities in direct marketing.
Over the next few months representatives of the IDM will present to students at universities including Glasgow, Oxford, Newcastle and Bath. The presentation will explain how major companies such as NSPCC and Skoda have used direct marketing to push their businesses forward. The purpose of the presentation is to demonstrate how important direct marketing is in today's business climate.
At selected venues students will be invited to participate in an interactive workshop where they will work on a real-life brief for Ocado, after which the award-winning solution produced by agency Heresy for the same task will be presented. The students that deliver the best presentation will be awarded a prize and everyone who attends will receive a Certificate of Participation for their portfolio.
Kate Wilkinson, Director of Graduate Services at the IDM explains, "The experience of the IDM student competition suggests students learn more about direct marketing and understand it better if they participate first hand in projects. We have designed the presentations and workshops with this in mind and expect that as a result of this tour a greater number and a better quality of student will be attracted to a career in direct marketing. We are indebted to Ocado and Heresy for their support of this project."
The IDM Student tour begins on 16 October at the University of Warwick, and new dates and venues are being continually added. To see the latest schedule visit www.think-direct.com/careerstalks.
