IPA and IDM team up to offer DM courses to IPA members
Released 10 March 2003: The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) and the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) have teamed up to deliver direct marketing training to IPA member agencies.
The IDM will hold the Certificate in Direct marketing course for IPA members at the IPA’s London offices beginning in April.
This is not the first time the IDM has delivered direct marketing training to above the line agencies. Many big-name agency groups have commissioned a variety of direct marketing training from the IDM. The IPA’s support for an open course is expected to attract individuals from within agencies who are keen to add direct marketing know-how to their skills portfolio.
Ann Murray Chatterton, Director of Training and Development, IPA says, "The distinction between above and below the line is becoming increasingly blurred in the interactive age. The IPA recognises that its members need to complement their established skills set with an understanding of direct marketing. As the pre-eminent authority of the discipline in the UK today the IDM is the only logical partner to help us address this new and growing need."
Fidelma Haverty, Director of In-Company Training at the IDM adds, "Direct marketing is one of only two growth areas in marketing in this year’s Bellwether report. This indicates a real and present need for above the line agencies to really understand the discipline in order to service their clients as they increasingly ask for campaigns to incorporate direct marketing."
The promotion of the IDM Certificate to IPA members is the first joint initiative between the two industry bodies. Talks about how the two might join forces in other ways are on-going.
About the IDM
In the 16 years since it was founded, the IDM’s agenda has evolved to reflect the extraordinary revolution in business practices brought about by the growth of new media and technologies. The IDM is a not-for-profit organisation, an educational trust and a registered charity, and it offers courses and qualifications spanning every aspect of business and technology.
About the IPA
The IPA is the industry body and professional institute for UK advertising, media and marketing communications agencies and was established in 1917 as a servicing body and to negotiate on behalf of its members with media bodies, government departments and unions. The IPA’s 217 corporate members represent the major part of the advertising agency business, handling advertising with an estimated value of some £7,000 million per year (over 80 per cent of advertising placed by agencies) on behalf of many tens of thousands of their client companies and organisations nationwide.
