Released 23 May 2000: John Watson, founder and Chairman of the UK's most successful direct marketing agency, WWAV Rapp Collins Group, was awarded the Institute of Direct Marketing's pedagogic accolade, the IDM Educator of the Year. John Hughes, Executive Chairman of MM Group, presented the prize at the Symposium Gala Dinner.
John Watson's links with direct marketing education began more than 14 years ago, when he was a trustee of the Direct Marketing Centre before it became the IDM. The IDM's Qualifications Director, Amanda Rogers, says, "John has been a staunch and active supporter of direct marketing education and training ever since the Institute's early days. An inspiring speaker with a passion for teaching, he has lectured on the IDM Diploma course since its inception and on a number of the professional short courses run by the Institute. As an employer, John has provided the learning ground for numerous graduates and trainees to develop their skills in this profession."
Watson was Chairman of the IDM from 1986 to 1989, a Board Director from 1986 to 1998 and has been a trustee since 1986. In 1995 he was elected as a Fellow of the Institute.
