Nestle and KLP sponsor 2004 Student competition
Released 15 October 2003: University students across the country will rise to a marketing challenge to increase sales for household names Felix cat food, Bakers Complete and Winalot now that Nestlé Purina PetCare and its agency KLP Euro RSCG have been secured as sponsors for the 2004 IDM student competition.
Through the competition thousands of marketing and business students at universities nationwide will be able to incorporate a real-life element to their studies.
The brief asks students to review the current marketing activity of Nestlé Purina PetCare and write a direct marketing strategy which will complement this activity to increase sales within three key areas of its petcare portfolio; Felix, Bakers Complete and Winalot Dog Treats.
Michael Elkington, Insight and Innovation Manager at Nestlé Purina PetCare explains "Through this case study we are able to provide students with first hand experience of what it is like to research, create and pitch a genuine marketing campaign. It will be a tough but rewarding process and we are looking forward to seeing the solutions the students create."
Students have until May 2004 to produce their solution working in groups of four to six. The short-listed undergraduate and postgraduate entries will be invited to pitch their entry to the client and agency at an awards lunch in July and the winners will be decided as a result, reflecting the decision-making process as it happens in the business.
The top undergraduate team will share a top prize of £1,200.
The IDM Student Competition is now in its seventh year and has consistently received entries from around 100 groups of students per year from universities all over the UK. In addition the IDM Student Competition case study is integrated within course materials to afford the wider community of students studying marketing, business and other related disciplines the opportunity to work on a true to life and current project.
