New IDM course teaches how to measure social media marketing - and prove its effectiveness
Released 26 October 2010: In response to a swell in feedback amongst marketers on the need to prove the value of their social media programmes, the IDM has launched a new one-day course that gives marketers the tools and techniques to gather – and present to seniors – hard-nosed evidence of social media’s impact.
Successful Social Media Monitoring joins the IDM portfolio next month at the special launch price of £295 (usually £495) and will be taught by digital marketing consultant and online PR expert, Andrew Lloyd Gordon. Delegates will learn how to:
- Measure the success of their social media efforts
- Determine the ROI of social media activity
- Identify and track key performance indicators
- Analyse social media data and apply resulting market intelligence
- Use specific and appropriate metrics
- Present results so that seniors will understand the value of social media as a marketing device
The launch of the new course comes as a new report reveals that nearly half (47%) of firms cite worries about return on investment as a barrier to the adoption of social media marketing activities. And the latest B2B Barometer survey reported that 79% of those who do use social media in their marketing are not measuring the results.
Course tutor Andrew Lloyd Gordon says:
“Social media has been marketing’s red-hot topic for the last couple of years, but for many marketers – or certainly their seniors – it remains unproven as an effective part of the business development process. Social Media 'gurus' have often been at fault in not providing a solid measurement framework, which is a shame because without that framework 'social media fatigue' and cynicism can quickly set in. The new IDM course aims to fill this gap by turning social media activity into a measurable platform that organisations can understand and profit from. "
The addition of Successful Social Media Monitoring to the IDM’s portfolio is part of the Institute’s ongoing strategy to provide direct and digital marketers with the best and most up-to-date training. Digital marketing now represents over 50% of the IDM’s training offering and the new course is the third which specifically covers social media (the others being Social Media and Online PR and Social Media Strategy: Developing an Integrated Plan.
