New IDM Diploma to set the worldwide standard in interactive and direct marketing
Released 12 March 2001: The Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) has launched a new postgraduate qualification designed to teach marketing professionals the most effective use of marketing techniques and technology in the new electronic marketing environment. The qualification, The IDM Diploma in Interactive and Direct Marketing, will be launched in September 2001, replacing The IDM Diploma in Direct Marketing.
The original Diploma, the most coveted vocational marketing qualification in the UK, has set the worldwide standard for professionals in direct marketing for more than 20 years. Over that time it has remained at the cutting edge of marketing, teaching electronic media, CRM, database marketing, integration and ROI modelling. Nevertheless, given the continuance of the digital revolution and the advent of real-time online marketing, the Board and the Trust of the IDM have concluded that these technology-led changes to marketing are now so fundamental that it is time to recognise them with a new qualification.
Commenting on the new Diploma, Professor Derek Holder, Managing Director of the IDM, says, "Direct marketing principles have always led the application of emerging technologies to marketing, and online and interactive are not exceptions. Therefore, this qualification will not ignore the traditional principles of direct marketing; instead it will build upon their foundations to set the worldwide standard for interactive and direct marketing. In so doing, it will also identify the new opportunities brought by the emerging technologies and teach how to properly apply them."
The new Diploma is the first vocational course to blend online and offline marketing seamlessly. While being at the very forefront of the new marketing technologies, it will remain practical and applied, given its delivery by top practitioners.
The IDM's Chairman, David Payne, adds, "It is absolutely the right time for the new Diploma. In tomorrow's marketing environment, technology will empower the customer and enable the marketer to a degree never experienced before. And so, a new skills set will define the complete interactive marketer. This qualification provides those skills."
