As head of one of the world's leading communications services companies, Sir Martin Sorrell is considered by many to be the consummate business leader, uniquely positioned to give his global perspective on the challenges and opportunities presented by today's important business trends. For Sir Martin these include:

  • The shift in economic power from West to East
  • The diminishing supremacy of traditional advertising
  • Increased focus on direct, accountable marketing
  • The continued influence of the Web

There are also likely to issue some sharp predictions for those who choose to ignore the changing business landscape.

IDM Membership Director, Caroline Robertson comments:
"I’m absolutely delighted Sir Martin has agreed to address the Members in our 20th anniversary year. Whilst direct marketing has come along way – it’s wise to be aware of the challenges and opportunities we face as individuals and at work. Who better then to signpost these than one of today’s global marketing and business leaders? The Lunch has always had a reputation for authoritative and insightful guest speakers, intelligent conversation, great contacts and culinary delights. In our 20th year, I expect the Lunch to be more provocative, fun and stimulating than ever before!"

The IDM's 2007 Annual Lunch takes place on 12 February in central London. The Lunch regularly attracts expert and accomplished speakers such as, from 2006, Sir Keith Mills and, from previous years, General Charles Krulak of MBNA; ex-MI5 chief Dame Stella Rimington and Ken Livingston, now Mayor of London. The Annual Lunch audience typically comprises some of the most senior direct, data and digital marketers, and, fittingly, it is here that the IDM awards the year’s new Honorary Life Fellowships and IDM Educator of the Year.
