The IDM presents An Audience with…the UK’s most celebrated creative director, Steve Harrison
Released 15 September 2009: On September 30, the Institute of Direct Marketing presents a rare opportunity to hear from the man who Campaign magazine described as "the greatest DM creative of this generation". A celebrated creative director for over 15 years, Steve Harrison Hon F IDM will reveal the key to a consistently successful creative process when he examines "How to do better creative work".
Harrison, who this summer added title of best-selling author to his credentials, with the launch of his first book, will be encouraging a high degree of audience participation at the event, where he will discuss how to:
- identify and apply the simple problem/solution dynamic
- draw on the problem/solution dynamic for big marketing ideas
- use "relevant abruption" to produce big creative ideas
- simultaneously build a brand AND get response
IDM Programme Director, Joanna King says:"We’re delighted to add Steve as a speaker on our “Audience with” series. As an IDM tutor we’ve seen how audiences warm to his relaxed unassuming style, while reaping huge benefits from the experience of such a heavyweight, knowledgeable direct marketing professional. Anyone who attends the event is sure to walk away with a wealth of practical, effective advice they can apply immediately to their own campaigns."
Harrison recently left the agency life during which he won more awards than any other UK creative director. He has been both European Creative Director at OgilvyOne and Worldwide Creative Director at Wunderman and in between, he established his own agency, HTW, as the industry benchmark for creative excellence. He continues to tutor for the IDM on a regular basis, where hundreds of training course delegates benefit from his considerable experience and undisputed creative expertise.
Harrison’s best-selling book, How to do better creative work, was launched in June to such critical acclaim as:
"Steve is one of the few people capable of looking at a notoriously self-obsessed industry and saying 'The Emperor has no clothes.' And he's one of an even smaller number who can look at its problems and say 'Here's how you fix it.'" Jon Steel, author of Truth, Lies and Advertising and Perfect Pitch.
"This is essential for anyone who wants to demystify the creative process. Harrison's simple common-sense approach makes you wonder why so many campaigns fail so spectacularly" Larissa Vince, Campaign magazine.
