The IDM Symposium 2007. 20:20 Vision: The 10 supertrends that will transform marketing
Released 22 February 2007: Twenty-twenty vision is the theme of the IDM’s 20th anniversary Symposium on 15 May, as we look to the future at the ten supertrends that will revolutionise marketing.
From the myriad social and technological trends that are driving change in today's marketplace, the IDM Symposium 2007, sponsored by Oracle, has assembled the ten key issues that are changing marketing thinking and practice, and even the routes by which marketers will find professional and commercial success. An international line-up of speakers, each a world-class expert in their field, will examine the supertrends in detail and, via an interactive voting system, will invite delegate feedback on the likely impact of each issue. The IDM will use the resulting insight as part of its research for future output.
The 10 marketing supertrends of Symposium 2007:
Brands
- SUSTAINABILITY – could eco-ethics blow your brand off course?
- CO-CREATION – have consumers taken control of your brand?
Media
- CONSUMPTION – how can you plan for rapidly changing media usage?
- CONNECTIVITY – how will new technology revolutionise brand tracking?
Internet
- SEARCH – how do you exploit the potential of tomorrow’s new breed of search engines?
- SOCIAL NETWORKING – how can you ensure your brand’s success in the socially networked marketplace?
Consumers
- LIFESTYLES – are your brand values still relevant in the “me” world?

Of this year's programme, IDM Managing Director, Professor Derek Holder comments: “In the IDM’s 20th anniversary year it would have been fun to look forward to the next 20 years. But that would be pointless. Marketing will change in 20 months! Successful marketers will be those who have the ability to tap into the seismic shifts we’re witnessing, find the new opportunities and have the courage to lay down bold, innovative strategies. Symposium 2007 will reveal the latest opportunities and challenges that have the power to make or break an organisation's competitiveness.”
The supertrends will be analysed by 12 top international speakers. Keynotes will be delivered by Trond Riiber Knudsen, Managing Director, McKinsey & Co, Norway and by Bruce A Biegel, Senior Managing Director, Winterberry Group and Chair of the DMA (US) Marketing Technology & Internet Council. Among other speakers are Stephen Taylor F IDM, Regional Vice President and MD, Yahoo!; Melanie Howard F IDM, Co-Founder and Director, The Future Foundation; and Alastair Tempest, Director General, FEDMA.
The IDM Symposium 2007 takes place at the London Marriot Hotel in London's Grosvenor Square on 15 May. Booking details and full conference programme are available at www.theidm.com/symposium.
