Coaching and mentoring
|
Realise your full potential with a little help from an IDM coach. |
Why has the IDM become involved in coaching and mentoring?
In increasingly busy marketing environments, skills development can be limited to areas of technical competence, with individual performance considered only in relation to business objectives.
Often people need to become more resilient as they face mounting challenges. The IDM recognises that developing people and improving performance go hand-in-hand which is why we have our Coaching and Mentoring service. After all Personal Development Plans (PDPs) should be concerned as much with the individual’s personal performance, as their technical skills set.
Our scheme provides qualified coaches and mentors, focussed on developing your potential, who talk your language, boost your confidence and are backed by a trusted institute.
What is coaching and how does it differ from mentoring?
Coaching is an ongoing process designed to help individual employees to gain greater competence and overcome barriers to improve performance.
Coaching concentrates on supporting growth in terms of professional development by challenging, encouraging and motivating the individual towards achieving their goals.
A coach acts as an objective outsider, a sounding board in an ongoing one-to-one relationship.
A mentor acts more as a role model and advisor, sharing experiences and often suggesting courses of action rather than helping the individual identify the solution for themselves. They don’t teach, train or instruct.
What has happened so far and what can the IDM offer?
The IDM’s Coaching and Mentoring Service is concerned with individual performance in a business context. We do not offer life coaching or counselling.
To date the IDM is working with both client and agency organisations, providing coaches to work on a confidential basis with individuals.
Where the IDM adds real value is in being able to provide qualified and experienced business coaches who also understand your business environment. They won’t offer advice on marketing issues but their understanding of your working reality will be enormously valuable.
