Here are some of the questions we are most frequently asked about IDM coaching and mentoring.


If I request a Coach what happens next?

The IDM will provide you with a qualified coach or an experienced marketer who has been actively involved in providing coaching on an informal basis.

Requests for coaches or mentors can be made by individuals who plan to self-fund or by companies looking to provide this service for employees.

Typically initial contact will be by face-to-face meeting where the precise nature of each coaching assignment will be agreed. It is crucial that this is agreed in advance so that expectations are clearly understood.

Subsequent contact can take the form of meetings, telephone contact or email contact, according to the preference of the person being coached.

Is this service confidential?

Whatever approach you decide on, rest assured that all contact remains entirely confidential between the assigned coach and the individual. No information whatsoever is shared outside of this relationship, even if the employer is providing funding.

How long does a coaching relationship last?

Individuals are usually encouraged to commit to three months of coaching time. The amount of time spent with your coach will entirely depend on your particular circumstances. You may want to have contact for an hour a week or shorter, sharper sessions may work for you. The IDM is here to help guide you to the right solution to you needs.

What does it cost to hire a coach?

The cost of coaching depends on the type of coaching the individual requires and the length of the coaching agreement.

For example, you may want weekly meetings to start or you may be more comfortable with telephone contact. We are here to guide you as you decide how to shape your own programme and many coaches offer a free initial session to allow both parties to determine if there is a good ‘fit’. Costs will also depend on whether it is corporate or personal coaching. Naturally, we aim to offer value for money.

What if I’m not an IDM Member?

The IDM’s coaching and mentoring service is open to members and non-members alike. IDM members will benefit from a discount.
