Competency auditing

Understanding the capability and effectiveness of your marketing team is key to delivering improved ROI.
To ensure competence in marketing, the IDM has developed a Marketing Competence (Audit) Toolkit, known as the MCap tool.
By combining, the generic national occupational standards (developed by the MSSSB) and our own professional curriculum for best practice direct, data and digital marketing, we have created a powerful online toolkit for evaluating modern day marketing competence – of the individual, the team, task or organisation.
Role of competences
The IDM’s competences toolkit supports, among many things, the following tasks:
- Determining current competence of individual marketers or teams of marketers in the organisation
- Forecasting future strategic and defining tactical needs likely to arise within the organisation
- Matching current and future competence to identify significant skill gaps
Other uses of the toolkit might include, for example:
- Structuring appraisal interviews, development reviews and associated feedback
- Devising skills development pathways for individuals and teams
- Writing thorough, relevant and progressive job descriptions
- Providing a framework for effective candidate evaluation and recruitment
- And, ultimately, a robust and evolving skills benchmarking tool
