Hosted by Google at their brand new London offices, this “Smarter Social Media” Knowledge and Networking Evening featured senior practitioners from BT, IBM, Nokia, Google and Juniper.


One of a series of knowledge and networking evenings throughout 2012, this evening was supported by the IDM Digital Council members who guided the topic and took part in the Panel discussions.

Paul Coffey, Agency Leader, Google

Prior to joining Google in 2010, Paul worked 16 years agency side - most recently as the MD of a digital creative agency. He's worked on a number of award winning social media campaigns for a range of clients including Royal Navy and Epson.

Craig Hepburn, Global Director, Digital and Social Media, Nokia

Craig is well recognised as a pioneer and expert in digital, particularly social media, and his expertise, honesty and engaging style, make him a popular speaker. At Nokia, Craig is responsible for aligning all paid and social media activities across the Nokia digital strategy. He leads a team of highly skilled experts who are driving the centre of digital media excellence and ensuring a high standard of strategic execution along with the creation of a company-wide social media taskforce representing sales and marketing. Craig has overall responsibility for digital innovation and management of core media agencies. Prior to Nokia,he spent two years at Open Text / RedDot as Director of Social Media Strategy and before that Craig spent almost three years at STA Travel rising to Head of E-commerce.

Steve Kemish F IDM, Director, Cyance and Chair, IDM Digital Marketing Council

Steve is a multi award-winning marketer and has been passionate about digital marketing since 1997, having worked both client-side and agency. He and his team work with clients to help them realise the potential of digital marketing and to help deliver results.

Passionate about using marketing principles to get the most out of the technology, when not with clients he is to be found speaking on the subject throughout the world on behalf of Cyance and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing, for whom he has lectured since 2004. Steve has worked with many brands on digital marketing, including: npower, Skype, ITV, IoD, Oracle, Cisco and British Airways.

Delphine Remy-Boutang, WW Social Media Marketing Director, IBM

Delphine Remy joined IBM 11 years ago and is based in London. Prior to her current role, Delphine held a number of positions within IBM communications, marketing and Sales. Before joining IBM, Delphine worked at EURO RSCG and Alain Carre in Paris where she was responsible of Public, Press Relations. In her current role, she drives digital influence strategy and execution at IBM focused on driving innovative marketing capabilities via the web. This in support of IBM's strategy of enabling and activating IBM's 400,000 employees as representatives of the brand. IBM has the largest employee population active in social media anywhere in the world. She is a frequent speaker at seminars, internal IBM conferences on the subject of social media marketing and its effective use. She was the Co-Chair of IBM Social Media Marketing Summit 2010 in New York City. She has been interviewed numerously on the subject of Social Business recently by BtoB Magazine USA: The Social Life. She was also invited recently as guest blogger on France Television blog (France TV is the French public national television broadcaster) to help shape their Social Media guidelines. In addition, Genevieve Petit interviewed her for a French article on Social @ IBM :"IBM voit du social partout" and again for VAD e-Commerce on how IBM humanize the web and lately on Social Media B2B in action. Bian Salins, Head of Social Media Innovation, BT Customer Service

Bian is a journalist turned social media evangelist. Her career started as a reporter for India’s first online venture, Rediff.com and she went on to be Associate Features Editor for ELLE Magazine before moving to England to work at upcoming ambient media company Boomerang Media. She then joined The Times Education Supplement to be Reviews Editor for their online parenting site, Learnfree. Since then, Bian has spent over 10 years at BT in various roles, including Managing Editor of BT Tradespace and Production Manager for BT Business. She now works as Head of Social Media Innovation within BT Customer Service where she sets the strategy for and manages BT's social media channels for customer service (branded as the popular BTCare) offering service through Twitter, internal and external forums, YouTube and Facebook. Bian has driven the BTCare strategy since 2010 as part of BT's social support to give customers the chance to connect with other BT customers, exchange ideas and solutions, find help and more. Since then, their Twitter following has increased by 164%, forums have seen a massive 594% growth in registered users and their weekly average Youtube viewing has quadrupled! Zoe Sands, Head of Digital EMEA, Juniper Networks

An experienced digital marketer since 1997. Zoe is passionate about optimising web-driven revenue and brand value for organisations from SMEs through to large enterprises. She currently works for Juniper Networks managing digital marketing for EMEA, responsible for evolving the content and capabilities of 6 localised country websites and developing digital marketing campaigns to drive brand awareness, engagement and demand generation. Prior to Juniper she worked for Cisco, Dialogic, The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Hyundai, Saab and Xerox. Zoe is a strong advocate of integrating social media and mobile capabilities into the marketing communications mix.
