If you are using an earlier version of Internet Explorer than IE5.0, then ideally you should upgrade at www.microsoft.com.

I am using a browser other than Internet Explorer

If you are using Netscape, Firefox (Mozilla), or Opera please consult your organisation's technical team.

Are there any issues with firewalls?

In most circumstances, no. However, some organisations impose strict security controls on content format and type, and also on the applications available on workstations. See related question "What equipment (hardware, software, browser) do I need?" and contact your organisation’s technical support team for further advice.

Who owns/runs the IDM’s learning system and what are their credentials?

IDM online learning is managed through CourseMill™, a SCORM conformant (www.adlnet.org) learning management system licensed from Trivantis Corporation (www.trivantis.com/company_overview.html).

When do I get access to my online course materials?

Once your fees have been received by the IDM, you will be sent your joining instructions pack, including the web address of the IDM’s online learning centre along with your personal learning account (user) no. and password.

Your study modules will be available (from the modules list) according to the study calendar provided with your joining instructions. Typically, these are released in phases to help you pace your studies. You will receive your free text books by post to coincide with the start of your studies.

How will I contact my tutor?

Each student receives a sheet of contact and biographical information on their allocated tutor. The sheet also indicates the best/preferred method of contact.

The IDM is the next point of contact for students in difficulty (after the tutor).

Is my work assessed throughout the programme?

There are two individual assignments which are set across the course duration. (Written feedback from a tutor is given on each assignment.) The material is formatted to enable students to assess their own progress, with tests and self-assessment sections at the end of every session.

Can I study modules ahead of their scheduled release dates?

Your studies are structured around the dates of assignments and examinations. Modules are released on a timed basis – so, ordinarily, you will not be able to jump to a module earlier than the rest of your cohort. However, if you have a pressing need to get ahead with your studies, contact coursemanager@theidm.com who will advise you on whether any advancement is possible for the module(s) of concern to you.

What additional study aids and resources will I receive?

You will/should have received your free text books by post to coincide with the start of your studies.

You also have online access to a number of free downloadable resources, as found under the ‘Resources’ tab (top of page). The resources are linked to each module and will grow in number over the course of your studies. Select a module from the modules list and then click on the resources tab to see what resources are currently available for that module.

If I fall behind in my studies can I defer or transfer?

If you are worried about keeping up with the study timetable, contact coursemanager@theidm.com or call +44 (0)20 8614 0277 in the first instance. The key milestones to consider are the assignments (for which you’ll need to complete the requisite modules) and, of course, revision and examinations. If you have misplaced your study calendar, email coursemanager@theidm.com to request an up-to-date copy.

Can I sit the exams earlier if I get through the courseware?

No. Examinations are held at set times on planned dates to protect the integrity of the exam questions and the awarding scheme.
