The founding father of the internet, Tim Berners-Lee, once said: "The power of the internet is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect." It is almost ten years since the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) arrived on the statute books in an attempt to stem the discrimination that many disabled people face on a daily basis. It simply does not make economic sense for brand owners to ignore this group. For example, according to the Employers Forum on Disability, the estimated purchasing power of people with disabilities is £40 - £50bn a year.
