Mighty Social deliver fascinating talk at TFM event 2017

The world of digital marketing is constantly evolving and it is more important than ever for marketers to keep up to date with the multitude of changes and innovations. Events like the Technology for Marketing (TFM) event 2017 present fantastic opportunities for digital marketers to come together and share ideas and knowledge. The TFM is the UK's only event dedicated to technology in marketing - 'martech' - where over 7,000 senior marketers attend.

As founding members of the DMA Social Media Council, Mighty Social was delighted to be invited to give a social media marketing talk at TFM 2017 for the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) academy. We put our AI hats on and researched this fascinating topic to deliver a truly informative talk.

The event was buzzing with knowledge and innovation - with stalls displaying everything from holographic replication to augmented reality demonstrations! The exhibition centre was filled with industry experts sharing ideas, networking and absorbing tons of martech knowledge. Over the two days of the event, the TFM presented over 150 speakers and ten keynote sessions in six theatres in the Olympia exhibition centre. Walking around the stalls and listening to others speak was very insightful and inspirational, and made us excited and glad to be a part of this innovative and forward-thinking industry.

Our presentation had a brilliant turn-out - all seats were filled and other visitors were standing around the edge of the presentation area to have a listen and watch. Our talk covered our two favourite topics - artificial intelligence (AI) and social media - and gave up-to-date examples of how AI is being implemented in advertising, marketing and social media. We believe that AI is not just 'the next big thing' but is already currently 'the big thing'. It is being implemented in several aspects of our lives, including here at Mighty Social, with our advanced ad targeting and insights technology, the Social Insight Engine. The future holds the potential for bigger, more powerful and wide-ranging applications of AI, not only in the field of digital marketing and advertising. If you are interested in reading more about AI and social media, have a read of our blog post on the topic, or watch the Facebook live from our recent SMW event.

Maya, our Paid Social Assistant, kicked off the talk by discussing definitions of AI and related terms, the development of image recognition technology and what our representation of AI should be. Next was Felix, one of our Paid Social Managers, who gave some exciting examples of AI successes, as well as some awkward (but funny!) examples of where AI has failed. Our CEO Joel also discussed what the future holes for marketers, and how AI advancement will affect marketing jobs in the future. It is reassuring to know that the human 'blue ocean' of creativity, innovation and creation of new ideas is likely to remain in the firm hands of humans!

The talk was very well received, and also created discussion in the Twitter sphere, with guests tweeting pictures and thoughts throughout the presentation. Our very own Partnerships Director Jeremy was there to live tweet the whole thing - check out his Twitter Moments from the event on the Mighty Social account here! At the end of the talk Joel opened the floor to a wide-range of interesting and thought-provoking questions from the audience. It was great to chat to some of the audience after the presentation, who work in many different sectors - from public health to recruitment - about the role of digital marketing and AI in their respective businesses.

A huge thanks to everyone who came to listen to our presentation, the IDM and DMA for inviting us and all the organisers of the TFM. And a huge thanks to the bot who wrote our presentation! Only joking... for now.
